Today I will be starting to share with you a series called Principles for Life. Here I will share principles that have been instrumental in my life as I seek to live for Jesus. They are not meant to take place of Biblical teaching, rather, they are based on Biblical teaching and their purpose is to encourage us to live for God and to have some basic principles to help us stay on course.
Today’s Principle is:
Delay your spoken responses. Think before you speak.
It is very easy to say every
thing we want to say. This does not mean that we should. Most conversations happen with little thinking, this makes us say things we shouldn’t, things we don’t want to, and things that are not useful to build up others. I have learned, and still continue to learn, that delaying my spoken responses help me tremendously in having wholesome conversations.
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29
Delaying our spoken responses will help us encourage rather than discourage, build, instead of destroy, enlighten rather than darken, and most importantly, glorify God instead of ourselves.
